The zoo is Germany’s oldest zoo and houses around 14,000 animals, most in open-air habitats.
The sheer number of animals they have is amazing, and they even had some I'd never seen before.
We also managed to catch the feeding of the orangutans and veterinarians and zookeepers examining the tapirs.
I'm glad I had on my walking shoes because the zoo is very large and we visited as much as we could in the time period we had allotted.
I personally enjoyed the ape house. I've never seen animals so happy and interactive.
I did find the enclosures very different from zoos at home. I felt like I was closer to the animals. They even have safety ring buoys to use incase someone were to fall into an enclosure.
The zoo was different also in the fact that it never seemed crowded, even though there were a lot of people. There was plenty of room for everyone.
The children's play ground was awesome. It was large and offered a nice place for kiddos to get out some energy.
Amazing experience!!
